FASD Key Worker Program

The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Key Worker Program provides support services for MCFD and Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society (VACFSS) caregivers, siblings, schools and other key resources that are supporting a child diagnosed, or suspected to have, an FASD.

Services are designed to encourage ongoing stability and continuity of long-term, family-based care through education and skill building. Key Worker Family Support Counselors work primarily with the youth. Work is done in recognition that the needs of both the caregiver and the youth are complex and constantly evolving. Program includes clinical supervision by a registered Psychologist.

FASD Key Workers work intensively with the principal caregiver on individualized plans. Plans may include:

  • Emotional support
  • Modeling of interventions
  • Implementing structured programming
  • Education around relevant topics
  • Promoting connection to community supports
  • Facilitating the appropriate utilization of respite
