The Prospects Program provides intensive support services for family-based MCFD foster homes working with difficult to serve children who benefit from the stability and continuity of long-term, family-based care. The program works towards stabilization, recognizing the complex and interactive needs of both the caregiver and child. It is important for families and youth entering the Prospects Program to realize that neither the foster parent nor child has failed. These youth have often been exposed to multiple placements, disappointments, abuse and neglect resulting in extreme hostility and thus have developed mistrust of care-taking adults. Specialized assistance can help to address these issues and stabilize the situation. The Family Support Counselor (FSC) works intensively with the caregiver on an individualized plan that works towards stabilization of the client. Plans may include:
