SVYC
South Vancouver Youth Centre
Programs & Referral

The Learning Centre provides each student with goal-oriented support in a small group setting and the opportunity to belong to a positive peer group. Goals focus on literacy and numeracy skill deficiencies and allow students to gain confidence, resulting in success in and outside the classroom. SVYC offers full-day, evening, or part-time programs to best suit the needs of the youth in service:

  • Full-Day - For youth working on grades 8 to 10 who require academic upgrading and intensive life-skills development. Students work to obtain academic credits in the morning and a variety of life skills and recreational opportunities in the afternoon. The program is for students who would benefit from extra support in a smaller group setting.
  • Evening - For youth working on grades 8 to 10, who require less intensive life skills development and more focus on academic upgrading. For students who benefit from support in a small, self-paced group setting.
  • Part-time - For youth who are not classroom ready and require intensive life skill development. The program is designed to meet the needs of students who would benefit from a small, sheltered setting. Students in the part-time program may have a goal of possible integration to afternoon programming.

Referrals from Ministry of Child and Family Development or Aboriginal delegated agency Social Worker or Probation Officer are emailed to the MCFD Youth Services Community Liaison. Referrals are accepted on an on-going basis and reviewed by a MCFD/VSB screening committee to determine eligibility, placement and priority.
